DETERMINATION
The Tribunal member has no other choice but to confirm the decision of the Minister of Transport not to renew the category 3 medical certificate of the applicant.
REASONS FOR THE DETERMINATION
Refusal to renew a category 3 aviation medical certificate — There is no dispute that the applicant suffers from Bipolar 1 disorder. Even though the applicant’s attending physician found the applicant to be in a period of remission, the fact remains that the natural cause of this illness bears certain risks for the holder of a pilot licence (category 3) and an ultra-light instructor licence. Consequently, the Tribunal member has no other choice but to confirm the decision of the Minister of Transport not to renew the category 3 medical certificate of the applicant.
