DETERMINATION
The Minister’s decision to not renew the applicant’s aviation medical certificate is confirmed.
REASONS FOR THE DETERMINATION
Refusal to renew a category 3 aviation medical certificate — The diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder is not at issue. However, the applicant has been taking Effexor XR for a year. The possible side effects of Effexor XR are the same as those of tranquilizers, not to mention that the manifestations of generalized anxiety include the same adverse effects. The applicant’s diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder requires treatment with an antidepressant/anxiolytic and possibly psychiatric counselling. Therefore, the Minister of Transport’s decision to not renew the applicant’s aviation medical certificate is confirmed.
